Description
Ox heart steak – which looks a bit like Featherblade steak – has a unique, dense, texture, similar to a tough steak.
It’s got a mild flavour with a slightly gamey undertone – rather like venison. And a chewy, beefy taste.
It's also a healthy choice.
Heart steak has a similar nutrient profile to other cuts of beef, but it's higher in protein, thiamine, folate, selenium, phosphorus, zinc, several B vitamins, and most notably CoQ10, an important antioxidant that guards against heart disease. Which is why it's popular again with a new generation of health conscious gym-goers.
Ox heart takes well to either quick, hot, cooking on grill or griddle, served medium rare – or long slow stewing. It's very popular in Morocco, so if you want recipe ideas check out the Moroccan ones first.
